For more than 30 years, we have provided advice and support to survivors of Nazi persecution and their relatives worldwide on issues relating to compensation. In addition, we develop social projects for survivors, promote intergenerational dialogue and implement innovative educational projects on remembrance culture, human rights and democracy.

Whether as an intern or volunteer: with us, you can make an important contribution while gaining valuable experience.

Volunteer Opportunities in Social Projects – Supporting Survivors in Later Life

The survivors of Nazi persecution with whom we work are now all over the age of 80, with some approaching 100. Many live alone and rely on support because of their age or health. By volunteering with us, you can help ensure that they remain connected to society and do not feel isolated.

A large part of our social work would not be possible without the dedication of volunteers. Whether through personal visits, shared activities or our Storytelling and Encounter Cafés, every contribution helps improve quality of life, promote social participation and create meaningful human connections.

Ways to Get Involved

We are particularly looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Community and Testimony Cafés

For our Community and Testimony Cafés in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Recklinghausen, we are looking for people who would like to:

  • talk with survivors of Nazi persecution
  • support the organisation and facilitation of the cafés
  • contribute to remembrance work and civic engagement

Volunteer visiting and support service

As part of our social projects, volunteers accompany older survivors of Nazi persecution by:

  • going on walks and taking part in leisure activities
  • accompanying them to medical appointments and meetings with public authorities
  • making personal visits and spending time in conversation
  • accompanying them to social events

What We Are Looking For

  • Openness and empathy
  • Reliability
  • An interest in history and civic engagement
  • Enjoyment of working with people

As we regularly support Russian-speaking survivors of Nazi persecution, relatives and people seeking advice, we particularly welcome applications from people with a good command of Russian.

No previous experience is required. We will support you as you get started and are always available to answer your questions.
