Preserving and Sharing Family Histories

The voices of the last survivors of Nazi persecution are becoming fewer every year. As a result, the role of their children, grandchildren and other descendants is becoming increasingly important. They preserve their families' memories, share the experiences of their relatives and demonstrate how the consequences of persecution and exclusion continue to shape lives across generations.

Descendants of survivors of Nazi persecution bring a unique perspective to remembrance and educational work. They do not speak from their own experience of persecution, but from the perspective of families whose lives were profoundly affected by Nazi crimes.

Many descendants have spent decades researching and reflecting on their family histories. Some grew up hearing stories of persecution and survival, while in other families the experiences of the Nazi era remained unspoken. For many, it was only later in life that they were able to begin exploring and coming to terms with their family's past.

The Federal Association works closely with many descendants of survivors of Nazi persecution and connects them with schools, educational institutions, memorial sites and other remembrance projects.
