Visiting and Accompanying Service for Survivors of Nazi Persecution in Cologne

In 2015 and 2016, the Federal Association Information and Advice for Survivors of Nazi Persecution offered a volunteer visiting and accompanying service for survivors of Nazi persecution. The pilot project was funded by Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) and Glücksspirale.

A team of volunteers paid weekly visits to survivors of Nazi persecution, asked about their well-being or just took the time to listen to them. Moreover, they supported older persons in their dealings with public authorities and accompanied them to cultural events or to see the doctor. The project aimed at enabling older people to live in their familiar environment for as long as possible.

Over the years, the involvement brought about contacts and friendships that extended well beyond the project.

The pilot project was funded by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) and the Glücksspirale in 2015 and 2016.
